We recently celebrated Independence Day in the US. As I watched the flag float in the breeze on my front porch, I felt both proud and deflated. This country was founded with many godly people seeking God’s will for freedom. He blessed them and blessed this country greatly as it grew over the next couple of centuries. The foundation was solid.
It seems that the foundation is not so solid these days. It is worrisome. Yet if we are in the last days, then we should, as Revelation says, return to our First Love. Because regardless of what happens in this country or around the world, the fact remains that stuff only happens as God allows. He is still Sovereign and His will is going to come about. Our choice is whether we will allow Him to use our lives or not as stuff happens.
Jesus came to redeem us. He said, “fear not the one who can only destroy the body. Instead, fear the One who can destroy body and soul.” Wow. This life is temporary, but eternity is forever. And eternity is only gained by trusting Jesus to take us there.
As I read in Ephesians recently, I found that Jesus is the Glory of God and these wonderful attributes were ascribed to Him: wisdom, revelation in knowledge of God, greatness in power, mighty in battle, triumphant over death, ruling over all principalities and powers (they are under His feet!), and He sits at the Right Hand of Father God in Heaven.
And you know what? He is the Head of the Church to whom He gives greatness! The Scripture says that our “eyes should be opened that we might know the hope of His calling; what are the riches of the glory of His great inheritance in the saints.”
That means us! He invites us to join Him! We might know the hope of His calling to greatness!
Jehovah Nissi! He is the Banner over us! A Standard never failing in battle!
Under His leadership. In this day. In this time. Whatever is coming.
“…the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints…” Ephesians 1:18.
