I was reading this morning in John 14 where Jesus is reassuring His disciples. And we, by faith osmosis, get those same reassurances. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” He said He was going away to prepare a place for us and He will return and take us there, so we could be with Him for eternity.
As I sat looking out the window over my Bible, I wondered how all my troubles could be so huge in my eyes. Jesus was reassuring His disciples just hours away from a horrible torture and death. And He knew it was coming. And he knew why it was coming.
I thought about death and how frightening it is – even to those who know heaven is our destination. There is that dark, unknown place to pass through. But, the comfort is that Jesus is there. He went there before us. He went there to receive us.
In just a couple weeks, we will be looking at the crucifixion of Jesus up front and center. Death will be in front of us.
Yet, we know that His Resurrection followed in three days, and we will celebrate. He is preparing a place for us. And He will come and get us so that we may go there with Him and be with Him forever.
This is death? No – this is LIFE!
And it’s nothing we can accomplish. Only He can do it for us. Only He can mark the path, cut away the sin that scrambles all over the path, and smooth out the rockiness of it. Then He turns to us, holds out His hand and says, “come, I’ll take you to My Father.”
“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me,” John 14:6.
