“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me.”
What does this mean?
Last time, the Image of a great and powerful God, too majestic for the human eye to even behold, with His booming voice threw John to the ground, unable to function. Then, after a quiet reassurance, He revived John and gave him pictures to describe and words to write.
John was first given words to write to churches, commendations and exhortations. Some things were good. Other things were not. Instructions were given on how to change the ugly things. The churches are told to repent, change direction, come back to your first love. Don’t compromise who you are and what you know is true just to fit in. Don’t allow the corruptions of the day to color your world view. Overcome, instead. Have more than just the appearance of worship in your church – be sure it is real, and not just a show. Listen to what the Spirit says.
Beware that persecution will come. Know whom you have believed. Listen for His Voice. Check your heart. Make sure there is fire in it. An attitude that is lazy will always take the easy road, and that leads to destruction. Take heed. Pay attention. Suffering is at hand.
Then the tone changes. It is a complete contrast and the Jesus we know stands at the door and knocks. With a quiet, sweet Voice of invitation, He says, “I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My Voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me.”
Overcoming! Listening! Opening the door! Time is short! Jesus is returning – are we watching for him? Are our hearts on fire? Do we love Him first? Do we worship Him in spirit and truth? How are we living our lives? Are we believing Him in faith?
“To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with My on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Revelation 3:20-22.
