Every Spring, when the sun finally bursts forward and the breeze is caressing and pleasing, I have to drive along the Spokane River on my way home from church. It’s an irresistible urge. So – I don’t resist.
Life hustles us on every day. We all feel the effects of it. Our noses are in our busyness. Chores call our names nearly every minute and we must obey. Projects scream, “Finish me! Finish me NOW!”
Refreshment
When I stop my car on the bluff above the rushing river, I take a deep breath. Everything else falls away. The roar of the water is sweet music. The current is swift with Winter’s runoff. How fast the river runs! There is no sign of the rocks that I know are all over the riverbed, and whitecaps tumble over one another in their scramble.
I stand there for a very long time. No one else invades my space. The sun is warm. One of these days (maybe next Sunday), I will trek the steep path down to the rocks by the water to sit. There I will just soak in the sun and listen as the river speaks to my soul. I wonder what secrets will be revealed?
Contemplating
Does our river of life race so swiftly? As I follow the waves, it seems to me that the river runs as fast as any day I drive on the freeway. So, does life go by that quickly, too? It would seem to me that it does. And if it does, then what are we doing with the time we have?
This week, the news of deaths and cancer diagnosis seemed to be rampant. These things are inescapable. When the news arrives, it feels quite muddy and overpowering. But, there is a River of Life that gives nourishment as it flows—straight from the Throne of God. I imagine the Son of Life sparkling on those crystal clear waters as they flow from heaven to us.
Jesus is the Author of Life and all waters flow from Him. He is our Nourishment even as He is our Savior. Sit on the banks and listen for His Voice. You WILL hear Him!
“And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east. His Voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth shone with His glory” Ezekiel 43:2.

Amid all the sad news flooding in, day after day, news that eats away at our peace, you point us to Christ. I’m so grateful to be reminded Living Water buoys our hopes, eases our hurts.. Thanks, Linda Jo.
Great minds, Laurie! I love your posts and how you show the beauty of our Lord in His marvelous creation – and the music you hear and translate for us, too.
