Upheld In Spite of Black Devils

Buzzzzz….

Can anyone relate? Those little no see ‘um black flies dive bomb me and I don’t know it until it’s over and I have red welts all over my neck and head. Itch. Scratch. AUGH! Go crazy!

This afternoon, I went shopping for the latest remedy: Go Clips. I think they must work because I sat for nearly 40 minutes on my porch before getting dive bombed. But, I don’t think I have any NEW bites. Thank the Lord.

If their very presence weren’t insult enough, I took a sip of my iced tea and noticed a drowning fly in between the ice. You have GOT to be kidding!!

Black Devils

I think of those pesky bugs as black devils. They sneak up on you and then WHAM!

I think sin must be like that. It sneaks up on you and then WHAM! It’s hard to live in the depths of the earth in this life where we fall short. Does anyone ever get through a whole day without thinking at some point, “Oh! I wish I had not said that.” Or, “How could I have done that?”

Will he or she ever forgive us?

Slap! Slap! Get away, you irritating, troublesome, annoying, harassing, bothersome, irksome bugs … er … devils.

Gratitude

I’m grateful for God’s grace.

Our heavenly Father is faithful to encourage us. He knows of our failures. He promises new paths in the deserts of life and water to drink when we are dry. He promises that our fruit will remain abundant as we produce for Him. He gives us a sane mind when we fear obstacles (like black biting flies!). He promises to be with us as our character grows when we take the risks to stand firm. It is absolutely achievable to be victorious over black devils!

What love! What grace!

Jesus Christ is the hope of glory in us. He offers to us a trade—our dirt for His glory. Amazing!

Then He tells us not to let our hearts be troubled. How often do we agonize over things? We constantly brush away those irksome flies as they dive bomb us in our daily lives (literally, these days!). Yet, we are not to let our hearts be troubled because He is with us. He has given us His glory. Believe Him!

He holds out His hand for us. Let’s reach back.
