Alive Again!
Music permeates our being. It changes our attitudes. It brings back memories. It challenges us to achieve greater things. It soothes the wildness of our hearts.
A current song lyric brings to life the Scriptural picture of a father running to welcome home his wayward son. “My son who was lost,” he cried as he threw his arms around the young man, “was dead and is now alive again!” If you have a child who has come home from a far country, you can understand the elation!
Running After Us
It is amazing that Father God would run to be with us! How can that be? It is so unfathomable that most people can’t believe it. In fact, its so fantastic that many choose not to believe it. How undignified for God to run after us—I have heard it so described.
But is it?
Think of lovers. Don’t they run to each other? Friends who are meeting after a long time apart. Parents and children run to each other. So many different ways to come together again through love. All eager to connect.
So why is it strange that God would run after us? Or run to us? Do we not attribute eagerness to Him in wanting relationship with us? Even after He has shown us so many ways that He longs for us.
God’s Best for Us
God is good. He has only goodness in His heart for us. His best is always for us. He runs, in His eagerness, to bring His goodness to us.
In every circumstance.
Every disappointment.
Every situation gone wrong.
In loneliness
In despair
In happiness
In joy and gladness
Goodness Catching Up to Us
In all things, the goodness of God runs after us. Maybe we need to stop in our tracks, turn around and let His goodness catch up to us.
Let His goodness permeate our lives like water and air flow over our skin. Let it soak into our souls until the truth that God loves us becomes the most real thing we know.
Because it is true.
