Being Close
When I am sitting in front of my computer, my kitties want to snuggle up. I’m busy, but that doesn’t matter to them. They want my attention. They bump their heads on my arm, jump into my lap (my fingers skitter across the keyboard), and walk all over the back of my chair, rubbing against my shoulders.
They want to be close to me.
Sometimes I have to push them away and they sit with their backs to me and pin their ears, but they go find something else to do. Usually chasing each other, which is a whole other tale.
God never pushes us away. He continually invites us to come and climb into His lap.
He tells us not to let our hearts be troubled.
How often do we agonize over things?
Unfinished tasks.
Over a slight.
Over a word misspoken.
An offense taken or given.
Or more—a world gone amok.
Yet we are not to let our hearts be troubled because we believe in Him.
A Place With Him
He loves us so much that He wants us with Him for eternity.
Imagine that!
He went away to prepare a place for us to live with Him forever. And one day He is coming back to get us so that we can be where He is.
That’s the key—being where He is—whatever that location.
When with our loved ones, isn’t that what we want? To be together?
He’s going to take us to the place where He is. It’s a promise because if it were not so, He would have told us.
I wonder what He means by “mansions”? City streets don’t really do the trick, even if they are paved with gold. But crystal palaces reflecting the luminous colors from the throne of God must be splendid!
Simply Together
Perhaps the splendor isn’t the point.
He might simply mean strolling hand in hand beside the River of Life while the brilliant colors play overhead in the white light. Maybe with a beautiful vista of glorious mountains before us. Maybe birds will twitter as they fly around, and friendly wildlife would wander by as we swing our hands and walk heavenly paths.
Then, He invites us to come and sit with Him. Just as we do with our children, He reaches out to pick us up and plop us into His lap so He can hug us close to His heart.
Simply together. Forever.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:1-3 NKJV).
