The Fun Trips
It’s the memories that sustain us in the time after a beloved passes from this world. It’s been two weeks since my Mama ran into the arms of Jesus in heaven. What a whirlwind of activity has followed her departure. I’ve certainly done my share of moaning about it.
But, I have some great memories with my Mama. Besides the growing up years where discipline had been administered, Mama became a good friend to me and my four sisters. Some of the highlights were the trips we shared.
To The Sand Dunes in Oregon
Who would have thought we’d share a sand dune adventure? What fun to race through the sand—like skimming across the water in a boat. Except for the grit flying by and settling in every crevice. What a blast! Literally!
To The Ocean in Washington
We spent hours beach combing in Oregon. Shells, and sealife are fascinating. Mom loved this.
To Silver Mountain in Idaho
The trip to the summit in a gondola was loooong. But it took us to the top of the world.
To the Tulips in Western Washington
Even as the mask restrictions lingered, the tulips bloomed and we got to go see them. Mom loved the flowers and passed that along to all of her daughters. So colorful!
To Ireland
Mom overlooking the ramparts at Blarney Castle in Ireland. This was close to the poison garden that holds many of the plants in our own gardens right here at home. Funny.
To an Alaska Cruise
Her last trip, just last September. We went up to Skagway, Alaska and back. My first cruise. Spent a lot of time in the observation deck just looking around. So much water. We had lots of sunshine. And we had a secret. We walked by the jewelry shop the first time. We just peeked the second time. But they got us the third time. We both bought “rare” gems that we couldn’t afford. So we looked at each other and pledged we’d keep it secret. Until now. I have hers and my treasures.
