The Near Accident
I never heard a screech of brakes. How could I? There were none.
After work, there is a lineup of cars trying to get out onto the arterial. There is no light or even a stop sign. This day, the car next to me wanted to make a left turn and I intended to turn right. The light, two blocks away, turned green and here came all the cars racing down the black topped speedway look alike. They passed in a whiz.
A lone car crept along with his turn signal on. It looked like he was going into his turn, so I pulled out and made my right turn. God is good to me and my new cute little red car. As I changed lanes and looked in my rearview mirror I was shocked to see the wobbling of that creeping car still crossing in front of the street I’d just pulled out from. Yes, his turn signal was still on.
I was horrified. I had just pulled out in front of another driver during rush hour. I could have caused a massive accident. And red cars can’t hide mistakes! After the first reaction, I thought that idiot drivers shouldn’t be on the road. But, then, that would disqualify me, too.
I’m so glad God has His hands in the affairs of all idiot drivers. No one was hurt this time and we’ll all be driving our cars tomorrow.
The Real Accident
I was in a line of cars pulling over to the side of the road to allow clear access to the ambulance screaming up the street toward us.
As it went by, I prayed. I prayed for the person being rushed to the hospital –that doctors and nurses would be ready for him or her. I prayed that the paramedics would get the patient there in time. I prayed first for a full recovery for the fallen driver and passengers. That doesn’t always happen, and I prayed that the patients would not leave earth without knowing Jesus, the only one who could heal completely and save a soul and spirit for eternity.
I often do that when the ambulances and firetrucks charge by me. I have often thought how comforting it would be to know (when one is in dire straits enough to be in one of those vehicles) that people were praying for me.
I remembered being with other friends who stopped to pray as an ambulance went by. What if, once the ambulance went by me, I prayed; then as it passed the cars behind me, people prayed as it went by – one after the other. There would be a trail of prayer for the paramedics and patients all the way to the medical center.
Maybe we can’t see such a stream of prayer, but God can see it. All the way.
What a wonderful thought!
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ,” Galatians 6:2.

So glad to read of the Lord’s protection with angels round about you! In spite of our mistakes in judgment, He covers us. Keeps the angels busy too 🙂 And love your encouraging word of praying for those in need when emergency vehicles pass. I often do, but should do more often as well. Bless you and your cute little red car – still intact 🙂 Hugs!
Yes, indeed. God is good and His plan will come about no matter what. Sure is good to know.
