Pending Disaster?
I’ve been reading or listening to disaster scenarios this past week. That’s probably not a good thing to do. The questions come – can this be true? Why – everyone knows the Northwest is a safe place to be, right?
Except that we are learning about the serious fault line between the Cascadia Plate and the Juan de Fuca Plate. It makes the old California scare look miniscule. The news people are interviewing their experts, and it’s posted all over Facebook that we are overdue for THE BIG ONE. Only it’s in the Northwest, not California. We are some 50 years or so past due for the predicted 9.2 shakeup. Then, once this earthquake levels us, it sends a tsunami to Japan and another one back our way. I guess we know what those look like. We’ve seen Indonesia and Japan suffer. No thanks, not in my backyard, please!
But – what if it’s true?
Maybe we could relocate to the Midwest. Only we might get wiped out by a tornado. Or maybe the East Coast – but hurricanes have been known to blow through there. How about Florida? Nah – hurricanes and sink holes don’t sound too safe. Well, what about the Southwest – inland, of course? Only they have death valley deserts and a dirth of water. Hmm. The mountains? Upon occasion, they shake, rattle, roll and spew ash.
I suggest there is no free zone from disaster. This world is broken and deteriorating. Just ask any environmentalist trying to save the planet. It began with Adam, was helped along a whole lot by Noah’s flood (that broke up the deeps – uh oh-the earth’s crust?). Ever since, we’ve lived on borrowed time on this globe.
What then?
Since God made this planet perfect and called all that He made very good; and then sin ruined our perfect environment on this perfect planet, perhaps we should go back to the beginning.
Conceivably there is no safe place to dwell anywhere on the world. What do we do? Live in fear? Constantly run back and forth to the current ground that is still solid? We’ve already ruled that out.
God still holds everything and every one of us in His hands. When He plans judgment, He warns. And warns. And warns. Then – POW!
The Scriptures have shown us that pattern over and over with God’s people and those who lived around them. God never moved without providing a prophet first and time for repentance.
We are seeing and hearing prophets everywhere. The time for repentance is now. Seek God.
He is found first in the pages of the Bible, His Word. Then, when we are ready to listen, His Holy Spirit whispers to our hearts. Try it. Time is short.
Jesus, our God, is the same yesterday, today and forever. He died on the Cross for our sin and rose from the dead so we can believe on Him and live in eternity with Him.
Seek Jesus. Time is short.

“Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.” (Psalm 46:2) The Big One isn’t on its way. He’s already here.
Amen!
