Moments
I drove east across the state line one morning recently. It had that happy bright yellow tinge in a cobalt sky kind of look. What a beautiful day. Mountains were covered in what looked like hoarfrost.
I truly basked in the moment.
What does it mean to you to be in the moment?
I have seen a lot of articles, created gift items, and memes that promote living life in the moment.
Stop to smell the roses.
Notice the bees meander in the lavender stalks.
Watch the turkeys waddle up the hill.
Enjoy the sunshine on your face, it’s like Abba God’s hands lovingly caressing your cheeks.
Be still.
Now
These are all good things that refresh our souls. Take a moment to be still and bask.
The past is over and the future is still “out there” somewhere. But we have this moment. Life happens in the now. One moment at a time.
But what happens if the moment is dark or sad? Escape becomes our foremost thought.
I have friends who are sitting at the bedsides of mothers on their journeys to forever. And other friends who have just lost loved ones to eternity. I have recently lost beloved ones to heaven. Are these good moments to sit in?
Maybe they are. Last moments can be sweet. Last words of love. Last minute memories shared. Faith passed from one generation to another. Glimpses of eternity.
But what if the end comes from an act of tragedy? Accidents, a time of prolonged suffering. Long moments to endure.
In every moment, there is something for us. In joy and in grief.
Hope
All we have on earth are moments. Moments follow moments. Marching to eternity.
There is something for us in every moment.
This is what we can count on:
Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Jesus sits with us in every situation—every moment. He promises to never leave us nor forsake us. He alone knows the depth of every moment we experience. He created us. He created the time bubble in which we live.
He longs to be at the heart of every moment we that we endure—or rejoice.
Maybe it is possible that we can sit in every moment. The sunny and the dark. Because Jesus sits with us. Moment by moment.
Always.
We have hope in Him. In joy and in grief.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me” (John 14:1 NKJV).
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them, for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave your nor forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV).
