Sitting Still
This morning, as I sat in my rocking chair, I gazed out the window at the brilliant autumn colors and contemplated life.
Huh? You say.
Well, it’s a pretty broad subject, so maybe I just admired the beauty of God’s creation.
Sometimes sitting still is a good thing.
And – wow – is it ever hard to do.
Contemplating
Perhaps contemplating is too strong a word. Emptying the brain? Unless its already empty, of course.
I thought about the seasons, since the falling leaves played it out before me.
How that spring is so welcome, light, and beautiful. As buds awaken, birds return and the colors are so pink, white and charming.
Summer comes along in its deep green, gold and blue maturity. Warm. Sometimes so hot we feel like melting. And fires.
Autumn sets a brilliant palette and we hardly know where to look because the colors are so striking. And the leaves fall. Branches are left bare. We witness the coming death. I wonder why there is such brilliance before the shroud?
Winter arrives and color is gone. It’s cold and dark. And yet – some days the cold, but clear, sun shines and sparkles on the snow under a stunning cobalt blue sky.
Hope Always
Hope always abounds, no matter the season. Even in winter, life leaves its tracks in the snow to remind us that God cares for us in every season.
He waits for us to take those moments in time to sit and contemplate.
To contemplate our Sovereign God who made the universe and everything in it.
To contemplate our Savior who suffered and died that we might live with Him forever.
Such love. Such longing. Such grace.
To contemplate our Holy Spirit who longs to lead us into the delights He has for us.
To contemplate that maybe, sometimes, Abba God just wants to hold us close as we sit upon His lap and listen to His heartbeat.
Will you sit still today?
