Freshness
The rain still feels good. Yes, there is a lot of it, but we’ve needed a washing. The air smells fresh. And with a little sun this morning, the season is still beautiful.
But, it’s not the weather that I’m pleased about. I finally got rid of a tub of hazardous waste that has taken up space in my garage for years. And it wasn’t even crowded at the waste plant site! I got in and out. Zappo! It feels really good to be free of the poisonous, toxic, noxious stuff I was hoarding. It’s gone. No longer a burden. YEAH!
Of course, as I drove away, I thought about that in a spiritual sense. Could it be that easy to be rid of the poisonous, toxic, noxious stuff I am hoarding in my soul?
Paradox
The answer is: yes, it is that easy. And no: it is not so easy. A paradox, we hoard in our souls.
But, does it have to be so? Our Lord Jesus took upon Himself all the poisonous, toxic, noxious sin so we could be free. He intends that we should be free. He suffered and died that we might be free. I wonder sometimes if He is grieved when we hold on to that poisonous, toxic, noxious sin.
When others do things to offend us, how hard is it NOT to take it to heart? To forgive? To move forward?
Risen to Freedom
But Jesus rose from the dead to make liberty available to us. We CAN rise above those things that hurt us. It is only through Him that this kind of independence is accomplished. We lay it all before Him and walk away.
Yet, the paradox is that we must choose His fresh, new life.
So – what about it?
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.
