Waters gushed underground in Jerusalem from the Fountain Gate to the Water Gate. If we move up the outside of our footprint map, we will stop at the Water Gate.
Energizing Crackle
I have said how much I love to visit the rivers around where I live. Each of the rivers has its own mystique. Each one offers something different for the soul.
Bowl and Pitcher is part of Riverside State Park on the Spokane River.
I often go there for refreshment from the stresses of life. There is something about ambling across rushing waters on the footbridge that attracts me time after time. I look through the slats underfoot to see the dizzying speed at which those waters run. Leaning on the sides I can watch the race of waves until they disappear around the bend. Up and over the rocks they go, and grabbing sticks in their wake. Blue and green rollers crest into whitecaps. The power of the river crackles in the air.
Life entices, energizes me.
Seek the Giver of Life
The Spring of Gihon pours close by here from the Fountain Gate to the Water Gate. Springs flow continuously. Ezra proclaimed Word of God from here. Scripture says Ezra stood on a tower by the Water Gate as he read. I wonder if the tower he stood on looked something like the rock cliffs above the Spokane River where the water spurts through? And did the Words of Life course through the air above the water?
The Holy Spirit surges like a river. Put yourself in the way of the flood. Immerse in Him. Like a river during snow melt off in Springtime. Read the Bible daily and seek His will for your life. Read it! Hear it! Feel it!
Power of the Holy Spirit
Waters move swiftly, but there is rest to the soul. For the power comes not from us, but from the Holy Spirit. All we have to do is “go with the flow!”
Let the Water gush forth through us, let the Word of God gush forth from us.
For Consideration
How does the Holy Spirit well up through the deep places of your life? Will you take the time to examine the waters deep inside and let them pour outward?
What is the difference in having simply invited the Holy Spirit into your life and living your life to show His power?
“The Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’, and there was light…” Genesis 12b,3.
I’ve so enjoyed this stroll around the gates, LindaJo.
“What is the difference in having simply invited the Holy Spirit into your life and living your life to show His power?” A powerful question for every reader’s reflection, thank you for asking it. ~ love you, Nanc
This sure is a challenge sometimes. I have to reflect on this regularly. Love you, too, Nanc.
Linda Jo, I’ve been housebound with a cold and your descriptions are bracing as a walk alongside our grand river. Spring is coming, no matter how I feel, and with it remembrance of resurrection waters. No need to hold my nose, either; I’m plunging in, expecting to breathe freely again—even underwater. 🙂 Thanks for the lift, friend.
You are always a lift for me, Laurie.
Like you, I have been housebound with a cold. Yuck! Got out on Sunday for the first time in a while. Guess where I went after church? Yep. Bowl and Pitcher. Just to stand in the middle of the footbridge, soak in the sun, enjoy the rush of the river and the sway of the bridge as folks walked across. It was magic, for a few minutes.
Thank God for His provision, eh?
