Bluff above Spokane River below Bowl and Pitcher
A Call To Prayer
Yesterday was a call to prayer by Franklin Graham. He called us to pray over the elections. After church I went to my favorite place to meditate. And pray. And seek God.
A spot just below Bowl and Pitcher. It’s an overlook, and you’ve seen my photos before. But this one is right after a record October snowfall. It got me to thinking.
It’s winter already.
A record snowfall covered our region before autumn was done. The red, yellow, orange and green leaves still hang on the trees. The wet snow mutes their brilliance somewhat.
I saw a rock in the river. It is unchangeable with every season. No matter what political winds prevail, no matter how high and fast the spring runoff gets, the rock is solid. Even in the winter swirls and eddies, the rock stands firm and in place.
Come to think of it, the trees are steady and tall as well. Even though they are pine trees and not noted for standing firm when the winds come. But there they are, above the rock and the eddies. Year after year.
We face a formidable election that could change this nation forever. Change it into something we don’t recognize and maybe we aren’t ready for that.
Stand Firm
Everything around me seems to be hollering “STAND FIRM!”
Even the new novel I’m working on—yep—the theme is STAND FIRM! I didn’t even plan it that way. It just emerged.
A large crowd of witnesses stands firm behind us. They fought for this nation. They died while pursuing the dream of freedom that is so tenuous these days. They fought a war, lived and died to keep the nation together under the banner of freedom. They STOOD FIRM.
When freedom was assailed around the world and people were dying in camps, those before us still STOOD FIRM.
And now it is our turn to STAND FIRM.
Strong Roots
So, as the strong roots of the trees reach out for the living water chasing by for nourishment, and dig into the ground firmly, let’s take heart.
Our calling, for now, is to vote. It is our heritage. It is our duty by way of love. Yes, the precious lives of those behind us.
Stand Firm on the Rock who gives us shelter and who stands the test of time. Who gave us freedom in this country and made us a light in the world. Let us stand firm on our integrity once again to be that light.
And the Light of the World will bring us into His freedom forever.
No matter what.
Thanks for this, Linda Jo! Your post ministered to me and was a good reminder to STAND FIRM.
Hi Mary: It’s certainly good to be reminded to Stand Firm, from every source it comes. And each time, as well. I surely need that reminder often!
