Encouragement
Lately, two words have been cropping up in my life. I suppose all of us come to these concepts at one time or another.
Relinquishment
Realignment
I questioned what these words might mean.
I came across some good advice from Dr. Kay Williams (Embracing God’s Plan in the Unexpected):
- Seek God’s purpose in change
- Cultivate a heart of gratitude in the unfamiliar
- Pray with an open heart
- Find joy in new experiences
- Focus on growth over comfort
- Serve others as a reflection of God’s love
- Reflect on God’s faithfulness in the past
Dr. Kay wrote these in a blog to encourage writers, but I surely do think these would apply to general living.
As I reflected over the last year, so many difficulties had to be overcome. And as I talked to friends, I found that many of us have had tough things to conquer.
Relinquishment
So, how do we overcome and conquer the things that oppress our spirits? Life happens and tough stuff will keep happening.
Maybe consider:
Stop obsessing. What? Who does that?
Restrain expectations.
Stop expecting perfection. From you or anyone else.
Consider a change in the definition of success. God’s view? Or your own?
Realignment
How about this one? Where do we go?
Perhaps we first consider our purpose on earth.
Return to where we started. Was it good intentions? Determination?
Or simply to follow the Will of God.
Goals are good, they give direction. Some things must be done.
But we have permission to let go and allow God to work in us.
We only have today.
It’s okay if everything is not done perfectly, or even done. God knows.
Realign. Ask God daily what His purpose is for your life and relax.
Conversation with God
Ok, Lord. Let’s relinquish and realign. I can only do what You empower me to do and maybe I can finally accept that and move forward.
Child, I have been waiting. Take My yoke and My hand and let’s move forward together.
Amen.
