Time Standing Still
It’s still winter. I don’t know why, but after several snowfalls, by the end of January, a melt sets in and I hope we have rounded the corner to spring. But today it snowed again.
This week the fog closed in, and the hoarfrost has been beautiful. But everything is gray and white. I long to see color again.
It is as if time is standing still. I know better, of course. Time never stands still. In fact, sometimes it races.
Time for God
Maybe the closed-in feeling of winter is a reminder to spend time with God.
When the snow falls, or the fog moves in, a hush seems to prevail. Even as cars speed by during rush hour in the mornings, the atmosphere is quiet and calm.
No birds sing, though the turkeys make a funny clucking noise as they parade by. And the deer stop in their tracks to watch and listen. A good posture for us to emulate.
It’s a time that seems to beckon us to come closer to God. To open His Word and read of His love. To read of His warm invitation to sit in His tender presence while the cold prevails outside.
Time for Us
I read recently that God always has time for us.
Of course, that is true, but after all, He has a universe to run.
How can He have time for me? And you? Even at the same time. It boggles my mind that He chooses to spend time with me, even when I am too busy to sit and spend time with Him. He is always waiting for us.
His attention is bent toward us. He is gracious, good and loving every day. He hears our requests, our groans and our joys. Even when no one else does. We never have to perform to get His notice. We always have it.
I am so glad.
Aren’t you?
“The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works” (Psalm 145:9 NKJV).
“The Lord upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look expectantly to You, and You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing” (Psalm 145:14-16. NJV).
