Recently I was involved in a situation that undermined my confidence. It’s an old situation made current. The unexpected confrontation felt like it flattened my hair and blew it back behind me like a cartoon character. I had to battle hurt and disappointment.
I’ll bet I’m not alone in this.
It took a little while to wrestle my way through it, but the sweet, gentle voice of God finally filtered through my fog.
For those of us who must fight in this conflict, there is hope. Our God comes alongside us to tell us not to fear. We are more in Him than we know. We are fearfully (awesomely) and wonderfully made—by Him. He is with us. Always.
Our heavenly Father knows we need to hear these words. Who is more powerful than God? And if He is for us, why are we discouraged at times?
We are mystified by a circumstance, disappointed by a confrontation. But through it all, God is sovereign. He has it all together when we unravel.
Teach us, Lord, to abide in you. Teach us to allow your work to come to fruition in us, no matter how the lessons come. Help us not to look away from your care. Keep us from discouragement.
We can rely on our God to be our shield. He is our defender. He is our champion. We don’t need to defend ourselves. He comes alongside to help us in our time of need. He reminds us that our strength comes from Him and not ourselves.
He gives us the power to turn our thoughts away from our disappointments to Him. He has much more for us that will bring joy.
He guards us because He is invested in us. He gave His own Son to redeem us. And because this is true, we can respond in grace.
God is our strength. God is our helper. God is our defender. God gives us His Word in grace.
Mr. Beaver said (The Witch and The Wardrobe) that Aslan is not safe. But He is good. Perhaps it is how you look at what is safe. Having things always go well? No, He is not safe. But being held in the palm of God’s hand is the safest place to be.
Held in our Father’s righteous right hand is a place of honor. He cherishes us. Each one. It is a place of affirmation and encouragement. To be with Him. To be what He has created us to be. Called by Him. Our way prepared. Possessing undeserved favor. This can only come from the Righteous Judge who sees into our hearts.
To be held in the place of victory gives us the confidence to always move forward. Wherever He calls and through whatever circumstances He has prepared.
He has equipped us for victory.
He will make sure of it.
“He guards us because He is invested in us.” What a beautiful reassurance. Thanks, Linda Jo!
You are welcome, Mary. It’s amazing what He pulls out of us, right? The reason we do what we do. He is invested in us for sure.
