Going Awry
I’m in the generation that remembers Carol Burnett’s variety show. My sides still hurt from laughing. She had a segment called “As the Stomach Turns” in which her team parodied a successful daytime TV soap opera. Those skits showcased all kinds of hilarious scenarios that went awry.
Times are going awry now, but it may have more to do with the stomachache than being hilarious. It seems episodes of change are happening so fast that God’s call on our lives can get so easily lost.
Grasping
In Oswald Chamber’s book, My Utmost For His Highest, he states that our reach must exceed our grasp. He said that this is the proof that we have the vision. It is always just outside our grip, and we constantly strive for it. In this, as we grasp for the vision, we are energized by God. The inspiration comes from Him.
Wow. This is a lot to ponder. Perhaps, instead of the grasping, we get caught up in the cause. Of course, it is a good thing and part of doing work for God. But then we can easily mistake the cause for the call of God on our lives.
Re-Evaluate
The risk is that we grab the vision and think that now we have arrived. It is under our belts, and we are satisfied. The problem is that we can do the thing ourselves. We no longer need God or the vision He has for our lives because we can fulfill our own schemes.
Behold the flashing red DANGER light!
It’s time to come back to the beginning and re-evaluate.
Let go of our conceptions and instead, reach for the strategies that God has for us to fulfill.
Return to the first part of every idea that God gives and seek Him first.
Do the things that rekindle our love for Him.
When He is the One we seek, we discover that His vision is best.
Hold It Loosely
Corrie ten Boom once said she learned to hold all things loosely because it hurt so much when God pried her fingers off them. She was so right.
When we are brave enough to let go, He steps in.
With greater things than we can imagine or hope.
How about it?
“Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap no gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father fees them. Are you not of more value than they?” (Matthew 6:26 NKJV).
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33 NKJV).
Oh my, that Corrie quote! I am nodding in recognition. And taking the nudge on board. Again.
Thank you for posting this today, exactly when I needed it.
Laurie, you always bless me. I am so glad this post was timely for you. I’m talking to myself as well!
“Do the things that rekindle our love for Him.”
Great and necessary reminder!
Mary, Amen and Amen. All the time!
