Workout Resolutions—Again
It’s that time again. Christmas over-indulgence gives in to panic workout mode in January. We start out the new year thinking we are going to lose all that weight we spent the last few months gaining.
The crowds rush to the gyms. And I’m sure by the end of the month, over-indulgence panic will end, and everyone will go back to the regular non-holiday schedules. As usual.
Taking Care of the Temple
Of course, we do have a responsibility to care for our bodies. They are called the Temples of the Holy Spirit. Finding the balance isn’t always easy. I like to walk and when the weather permits, I am out walking and enjoying the world God has made. I like to hear the birds chirp and the bugs buzz, watch the leaves flutter, and blooming flowers burst with color. It’s good for the body and the soul. When the weather permits.
But what about winter? Brrr. I can’t even walk uphill to my mailbox when ice covers the road. What then?
The Lonely Workout
It looks like it’s time to go to the gym. When I can make myself leave the house while it’s dark and cold! Somehow, spending an hour or so on a machine doing repetitive activity doesn’t excite me much. Working out alone is just plain lonely and boring. I can hardly wait until I can finish and move on—like on out of the gym to something more fun!
Workout Friendships
This past autumn and winter has been different. God made us for fellowship—with Him first, and then with one another. I am in weekly workout classes with several friends and that has made all the difference. We must care for our bodies (if we want them to keep functioning), so why not do it together?
It might even lead to chocolate coffee afterward!
