2017 National Novel Writing Month
Every November, a form of madness hits a segment of our population. Novelists prepare lists, outlines, or just put some ideas together, then frantically write a LOT of words every day for a month to complete a book.
They even join a club to do it together. It’s a worldwide club. Writers join to give them a kick in the pants to get the job done (accountability), and for encouragement (it’s easier to just drop the project and go to Starbucks to stare at the coffee grounds).
My Turn
I’ve wanted to do this for years. But I’m a BIG CHICKEN. CLUCK. CLUCK. CLUCK!
What if I fail?
What if I just can’t get the daily word count done?
What if the words just don’t materialize in my head?
And—GASP—what if I find out that I don’t like my story?
THEN WHAT?
To Start is Victory—Here’s Hoping I Finish
But—and this is Big—I made a start! I signed up online officially. Gulp. No turning back. At this point, my characters are talking (or growling) at each other and action is—well—happening for now.
Thanksgiving is this month and that does present a challenge. The Nanowrimo deadline is November 30, at which time I should be presenting a finished first draft for my novel. Uh huh.
Being Accountable
Now that I have spilled my doubts to you, my Facebook Friends, I hope that you will hold me accountable and ask me every so often how it’s going. You may ask if my word count is stacking up and if the story is moving forward.
But only for the next three and a half weeks or so.
Here we go…
“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work” I Thessalonians 2:16-17.
Way ta go, Linda Jo…will be praying and occasionally rattling/texting you to see how the wordsmithing goes…love and hugs, glv
Hi Guyla: Yes, yes, please do. Thank you for occasionally rattling/texting me. I will need it! I so appreciate your friendship, dear one.
You go, girl!
Let the madness begin, er, continue . . .
Cheering you on, Linda Jo! You and Jesus can do this 🙂
Thanks, Laurie. This is pretty amazing that I’m even doing it! So far, so good. You are such an encourager. You bless me.
