White Robes
Almost done, but still trekking around the Jerusalem Gates footprint, we find this gate just before the Sheep Gate where we started.
Also known as the Inspection Gate, or the Judgment Gate, it represents the Judgment Seat of Jesus Christ. This is for His believers. It seems fitting to see this gate at the end of our adventure. At this point, we can look back on how we served our Lord during our earthly lives. Because we bowed under the Blood of the Lamb, white robes can be found for us.
Halleluia!
The Throne
One of my favorite Scripture passages describes the heavenly scene in the throne room. How amazing it would be to hear the broadcast tones from a trumpet! We pivot on our feet to see a Magnificent Throne. The One seated there, surrounded by colors of every kind, through a living rainbow! As the hues undulate around Him, sparkling facets of His Presence is revealed! Like gazing into the intensities of jewels, our eyes keep going … and going … can we look enough to see into His depths? Lightning and thunder reverberates from The Throne, and lamps of fire burn around Him.
What do we think? Can we think? What do we do? Perhaps fall to our knees in absolute worship!
When we can tear our eyes from The Throne, our gaze slides around to 24 thrones where lesser beings, dressed in white robes encircle the Regal Being. They have crowns on their heads and soon fall to their knees before Him on the Throne.
Sea of Glass
One more breathtaking sight: a sea of faces, shining like glass, worshipping Him all together, as one.
Does this excite you? You might well be there—in the sea of glass, like crystal, that lays before the throne. Many scholars tell us that this is a crowd of worshipping believers. That would be you and me.
Awesome!
He Alone Is Worthy
Then a symphony arises. We look to see four winged creatures with many eyes. Music swirls.
“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!” Revelation 4:8b.
Just as we hear this beautiful song, the elders rise and cast their crowns before The Throne and a concert swell of harmonies sings:
“You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created” Revelation 4:11.
And the Lamb who was slain and is now alive forevermore appears. He alone is worthy to open the scroll that begins judgments on earth.
For Consideration
Are you pressing into spiritual maturity and a life of faith? Are you thinking about eternity? Are you ready for the Lord’s return for His believers?
What a great question!
How does one prepare for splendor? Is it possible?
How does one sustain a “bowl me over, Lord” attitude?
I watched a televised fencing match yesterday. The competitors were incredibly light on their feet, and such quick responsive feet, able to move any direction at lightning speed … all leap and reach and seeming abandon. Perhaps that’s a clue . . .
I always wanted to learn to fence, but so far, I have not. You made it sound so fun. “All leap and reach and seeming abandon.” Yep, I’d say that’s a pretty good clue for splendor prep! Thank you for that word picture, Laurie!
