Stable Gate at Blarney Castle, Ireland
It’s War
Progressing on our walk around Jerusalem’s Gates, we come to the Horse Gate. On the footprint map we are following, this gate is located outside the foot by the ball—the fleshy area.
Animals filled different roles: donkeys and camels transported people and goods. Sheep and cattle were raised for food and other daily needs. But horses were stabled for war. Mostly described by their powerful muscles, flowing manes and snorts, horses ran like the wind as they carried warriors and weapons to war.
These honored campaigners are believed to have been stabled next to the King’s palace. Warriors rode out to and returned from battle at the Horse Gate.
Stand Firm
As we grow in the knowledge of God and determine to live for him, spiritual warfare is inevitable. The Scriptures have much to say on this matter. In the book of Ephesians (chapter 6), we are given spiritual armor to put on every day. What a good idea! The fiery arrows of the devil get shot at us all the time, it’s effective to wear armor and lift our shields of faith to stop the darts.
We are told to withstand the wiles of the devil!
It takes courage to stand firm. It takes strength to fight. We need our armor for protection.
The Holy Spirit stands ready to empower us the minute we call upon Him. It’s that “go with the flow” thing again. His power is available to us through the Blood of the Lamb, Jesus. More power than we can imagine. Be ready for it.
Some things we can do to fight the good fight:
- Make a conscious decision to believe God in your circumstances. Lift that shield of faith!
- Call on those in your community for help. They will remind you of the Good News of Salvation!
- Replace dark thoughts with Scripture – God’s Word is faithful and true—and it IS the Sword in the armor!
The Battle Is The Lord’s
Revelation, chapter 19 describes Jesus riding out of heaven on a white horse. He is called Faithful and True and His name is called The Word of God. A sharp sword flies out of His mouth to strike the nations. Armies, dressed in white and riding white horses, follow Him to battle.
He battles for His glory.
He battles for us.
The battle is the Lord’s.
For Consideration
For a real battle scene, read Revelation 19:11-21. God, and those with Him, triumph!
Join Him. Are you putting on your armor for spiritual warfare? Relying on the Lord in prayer? Doing the things He instructs must be done in His timing?
