Job in Us, 2020
Have you often felt like your name was Job or Mrs. Job in this year of 2020? It seems that whatever could go wrong in our world, certainly did. From the pandemic, the politics and right down to our daily lives, something just hasn’t been right.
Plenty of stories have been told in the Scriptures about people with problems just like ours. They are examples to us: some for what to do and some for what NOT to do.
The story of Job and his wife is one of despair and hope. God saw something in this man to showcase. He allowed a challenge for Job in the form of disasters arranged by the devil. Yet, as God said, “Job did not sin.”
God’s Love, Always Reaching Out
I have often wondered what God saw in Mrs. Job, as well. She does not begin well. Yet, at the end of the book, God is very specific about what He returns to faithful Job. He does not mention a new wife. I, therefore, assume that the old wife may have been on her own journey to repentance. She lost everything her husband lost. And, I don’t know about you men, but when a woman has carried and birthed ten children, that would be a devastating loss.
But our God is ever faithful. He will always be with us, no matter what it takes. In Mrs. Job’s Choice, the story of God’s work in our lives is revealed. His great love always reaches out to us.
