Ideas vs Resolutions
How do you order your ideas?
Here we are, in a new year and everyone is again talking about resolutions and starting new projects or new studies. I wonder what has happened to the old projects?
I gave up on doing new year resolutions a long time ago. I hear that most resolutions have gone to pot by the end of January. Yeah, I have to agree with that. The good intentions just can’t overcome years of habit.
Sigh.
God’s Expectations
I recently attended a meeting where guest author/speaker Nova Bee inspired me with her talk. Her points: identity, inventory, and innovation. She backed up each point with Scripture and showed us how God is for us, and as writers, He expects us to put His words “out there.”
Not His words “out there” as Scripture, of course, should anyone misunderstand. But, just as He gives everyone gifts, and artists the talent to paint, sculpt, or do other things, He equips writers with words.
Of course, that makes perfect sense to me. Every writer has people in his/her head screaming at them to “write my story or you will never have any peace.”
How does this translate from writing to anything else? Glad you asked. It’s very simple. God equips, God expects. What will you do with His expectations for you this year? It’s not about resolutions. It’s about developing what you already have.
Flowers with Purpose
But something in Nova Bee’s three I’s grabbed my attention. Inventory.
I have never thought of my ideas as inventory. I think this is something that anyone, not just writers, can grab hold of. Keeping track of your inventory – your ideas – and making plans to put them to good use. Good stewardship of God’s gifts. Yes, that is the idea of ideas.
Nova Bee said she considers her inventory like a garden. She likes to look at her ideas regularly and enjoy them. That’s interesting. Imagine each idea like a different flower that must be tended for different purposes. I like that.
God must be pleased when we do that.
Thank you, Nova Bee, for putting such a great idea in my head. May I go forward and glorify God. How about you, Reader?
